Cracking the cat code: Cat parenting hacks

Is your home about to be graced by one of the proudest(cutest) creatures on the planet?

If yes, then it’s best we get you started with some cool fun hacks to make the journey memorable.

Cats are as adorable as one can be but they come with a lot of personality quirks that can be entertaining if managed properly.

Becoming a cat parent is an exciting new phase in your life and we want to equip you with some cool tricks to make that life a lot more enjoyable and convenient:

  1. There are specific hot spots on your furniture that your cat will love to claw down. Just cover those places with tinfoil to divert their energy to a scratching post. If you have potted plants, you can place crumpled up tinfoil in them to stop the cats. They hate the texture and feel of tinfoil.
  2. Keep them off kitchen counters and other surfaces early on by placing double tape on them. They dislike the stickiness of the tape.
  3. Our country has seen a lot of hot days lately. Freeze wet cat food or tuna water to give a cool unique snack to your cat. They will love the whole experience.
  4. Your kitten will love to chomp down on wires and cords but covering all of them would be impractical. Instead, rub lemon or orange juice over them. Cats dislike the smell of citrus.
  5. Using laser pointers to play with your cat? Ensure that they get a treat by the end of the play to show them that the activity is over. Not being able to catch the laser can get frustrating for them. Use this method of positive reinforcement in any activity you engage in with your cat, it will inculcate good habits from the beginning.
  6. If your little kitty loves sleeping on your keyboard while you work, place a small box beside it. They will instantly get drawn to it. This will help you focus at work but also make your cat feel like they are close to you.
  7. Touch their ears, paws, and belly frequently to get them used to being petted as they grow up. It’ll turn your cat into a well behaved(mostly) pet and stop them from biting instinctively.
  8. Kitty litter stench at the beginning might be a bit overwhelming. Resolve this by adding baking soda or green tea leaves to the litter.
  9. If this is your second cat, then get both your cats acclimatized to each other by scent swapping. Rub a piece of cloth or towel on the first cat and then keep the cloth beside the second cat. Do this with both the cats so when they meet it doesn’t feel unfamiliar.
  10. To get a good night’s sleep, play with your cat 15-20 minutes before you go to bed. This will make them calmer and get them to sleep faster.
  11. Youtube has a treasure trove of calming songs to keep your cats relaxed and chill. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to give them a musical break.

These are just some of the few hacks that will make your cat’s life a lot easier from the moment they enter your house. While you are here, click this link to read some of the safeguards you can follow to create a safe and secure space for your kitten.
